TRAKA The Spirit of Patagonia

Launched in the fall 2017, Trakal is a smooth, earthy and herbaceous spirit from Patagonia.

Translating to “first warrior into battle,” Träkál was created by three travelers who met in South America, fell in love with Patagonia and wanted to capture its essence in a bottle.

Made from local apples, pears, and native herbs and berries, all of the ingredients, including the seven botanicals, are sourced within 100 meters of the distillery in Osorno, Chile. This triple-distilled, 84-proof liquor is a cross between a gin and a brandy and is quite versatile in cocktails.

I decided to keep it simple for this recipe, using fresh, in season, stone fruit to complement the spirit, and allowing the unique flavors of Trakal to shine through.

Patagonia Sparkler

  • 1.5 ounces Trakal
  • 2 slices each, apricot, nectarine, cherries
  • ½ ounce lemon juice
  • ½ ounce honey syrup
  • sparkling water
  • garnish with fresh tarragon

Add Trakal, syrup, fruit and juice in a shaker with ice and shake. Strain into an ice-filled highball. Top with soda water. Garnish with fresh tarragon.
